CÃ©line Marie Claudette Dion is a Canadian singer/songwriter born in Charlemagne, Quebec. Dion rose as a teen star after her manager and future husband RenÃ© AngÃ©lil mortgaged his home to invest in her first record. Dion achieved international fame in the 1980s by winning both the 1982 Yamaha World Popular Song Festival and the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest. Following a string of French albums, she signed to Epic Records in the United States. Dion released her debut English album, Unison in 1990, building herself as a feasible pop artist in North America and other English-speaking areas of the world.
