Yann Tiersen is a French musician and composer. Tiersen gew up in Rennes, France and became a prodigy at his local conservatory. Tiersen learned to play the piano and violin from ages six to fourteen, and eventually trained to become a conductor. Tiersen's compositions feature an ecclectic group of instruments including: the guitar, synthesizer, violin, melodica, xylophone, toy piano, harpsichord, accordion and typewriter. He may have used a doorbell, toothbrush, and lettuce in his music as well. Tiersen as posted three studio albums and is widely recognized for the soundtrack to the film AmÃ©lie.
