Willie Hugh Nelson was born in Texas in 1933, during the great depression, and now lives in Hawaii. Talk about a change in scenery! He wrote his first song at 7, and at 13, decided to earn some money by singing in dance halls and other places. He joined bands, was discharged from the airforce, dropped out of university, and then worked as a DJ. Nelson then signed a contract with a record label, allowing him to become the accomplished singer he is today, having been inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame. Besides writing popular songs, Nelson has done some other interesting things throughout his life. He used to be a Bible salesman in his youth. Interestingly enough, decades later, he ran into a burning house to save his stash of marijuana. Nelson has also been playing the same guitar for over 50 years.
