John Carpenter started the huge Halloween franchise with his 1978 film "Halloween" (co-written by Debra Hill, the movie's production budget was $300,000, and it grossed almost 50 million in the US alone!). Carpenter also composed the film's theme song (with the famous piano melody), which became a part of pop culture.
