Benjamin Earl King (September 28, 1938 – April 30, 2015), known as Ben E. King, was an American soul and R&B singer. His most popular track was "Stand by Me", which he performed as singer and co-composer. "Stand by Me" was a US Top 10 hit in 1961. In 1986, it resurfaced to great popularity when it was used as the theme to the film Stand by Me. Simple enough of a decision. The popular track became a number one hit in the UK in 1987, and is featired as no. 25 on the RIAA's list of Songs of the Century. Ben E. King, also the principal lead singer of the R&B vocal group the Drifters, notably sang the lead vocals of one of their biggest global hit singles "Save the Last Dance for Me".
