Top 10 Piano Songs for Christmas

Christmas is by far our favorite holiday here at OnlinePianist, we can finally clean out the dust from the good old Christmas carols that we love to play so much… :) It is also the best time for you to show off your piano skills that you’ve worked so hard on (or haven’t worked so hard on). All you need to do is learn 2-3 Christmas carols and the Christmas eve spotlight is yours. To make it easier for you, we have prepared this list of the best songs about Christmas.

This list includes traditional and modern songs alike, as we believe that the modern songs of today are the Christmas carols of tomorrow (or of 1000 years from now, but who’s counting right?). You can find the entire collection of our Christmas songs on the Christmas piano tutorials section and their corresponding sheets on our online Piano Sheet music section.

So here goes – Top 10 Songs about Christmas!

10. Justin Bieber – “Mistletoe”

I still believe Santa exists…

Justin Bieber is the first ever artist to release a Christmas collection album before the age of 50…. What’s next, a comeback performance by the age of 30? Learn to play Justin’s Mistletoe! Legend has it that all who learn to play the song find themselves standing with Justin under the mistletoe together (only if you want it to).

9. “O Tannenbaum (O Christmas Tree)”

What is Tannenbaum???

We bet you didn’t know that the first artificial Christmas trees were made of Goose feathers, and that there are much more artificial trees out there in existence than real ones.

By the way, there are also much more artificial Santa’s than real ones, but you already know that! Learn to play O Christmas Tree!

8. Bing Crosby – “White Christmas”

Did you ever see a non-white Christmas???

Although this Christmas song is not considered a traditional Christmas carol, most of your parents are familiar with it and the dreamy Bing (not Chandler).

Learn to play White Christmas, in the hopes that even those of us in sunny California get to experience a white Christmas for once!

7. “The Twelve Days of Christmas”

On the fourth day of Christmas I can’t listen to this song anymore!

This song gave me unrealistic expectations as a little boy… I was actually waiting everyday to get twelve drummers drumming, eleven pipers piping, ten lords a-leaping etc…

Needless to say that I never received any of these, and never understood why I’d even want a partridge in a pear tree. Learn to play The Twelve Days of Christmas and make sure to play it foreverrrrrrr, like the song.

6. Coldplay – “Christmas Lights”

We sang about Christmas way before Justin Bieber did!

It is a well known phenomenon that popular artists sing about Christmas or even release a complete Christmas album. It usually happens when the artist gets old and in dire need of a comeback, or when he gets writers-block. What is your excuse Bieber??? Learn to play Christmas Lights!

5. “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”

It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves. ~ Shakespeare

If we were to judge a song according to the number of versions it has on YouTube, then Twinkle Twinkle Little Star would have been placed much higher!  But we didn’t… Learn to play the song even your 3-year-old niece likely already knows how to play, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

4. Taylor Swift – “Last Christmas”

The saddest Christmas song ever written…

“Last Christmas” is probably the Christmas song with the highest number of cover versions. It was covered by at least 60 different artists(!!!). We chose Taylor Swift’s cover because she provides us with music for our zumba routine and for that we are eternally thankful ;) Learn to play a happier version of Last Christmas!

3. Adolph Adam – “O Holy Night”

Oh, hear the angels voices!

This song is the second best thing the French people brought to this world after the French baguette… Learn to play O Holy Night.

2. Mariah Carey – “All I want for Christmas is You”

I don’t want a lot for Christmas… Yea right…

All I want for Christmas is you. But can you please bring with you an iPhone 6? Learn to play All I want for Christmas is You.

1. “We Wish you a Merry Christmas”

And a happy New Year!

No jokes, no cynicism. We really really want to wish you and your families a Merry Christmas, you are truly the best fans in the world!

Merry Christmas!
